I want this so bad im a get this for Christmas cause the boys bathroom at Lakewood high is always locked and that sucks i hear that this really works and it better cause i know people bigger in power than anyone else

It is a good lock pick set that really works.

A no-nonsense pick set. The manual (included) does a good job of explaining what you need to know. Great for anyone who wants to learn.

The Pick Set is very durable with the basic tools in set, but I've seen better lock picking books and with easier, more complete information. The book that comes with the picking set felt incomplete in certain sections. I'd recommend getting just the picking set and skip the book since there are better out there. 3/5 stars.

i so wish i could get this set for my birthday coming up july 2nd im turning 17 and im really thinking of lock picking as a possible job but my parents decided to take away my birthday this year, and i wont get it next year, i got fired and dont have cash, so parents if your reading this get this for your kids, 14-16 they will love the idea of picking locks and helping people

The pamphlet "Easy Pickings" that comes with the set goes into detail about the process of lock picking, and goes over some of the types of locks. The set is moderately well-rounded, but I only use the single pin lifter now.
To those of you out there who think about picking whatever lock you desire: locks are there for a reason, and that is to keep most people out. It could be for your safety, but it is usually just for reasons of privacy. Please respect all of our wishes and only use sets like these for good (to help someone or yourself get back into their home), or for clean fun (pick the lock to a condemned house, or a padlock you find, or your own lock(s), etc). Oh, and these are defined as burglar tools in most states (rightly so); they are illegal to carry around if you are not working in the locksmithing trade.

man i really love this sight and i really want this kit

Does this work on regular master locks?

Simple ? so please simple answer.

Author: ShadyTyrant
The set of picks is of decent quality and I have no complaints about it. The book is ok but does seam to be missing something. Though it is an ok place to start. I need to get a few locks now to play with.

Just bought this...hope its good. I'm a beginner by the way. Is there good pointers someone can give me?

This pick set will work on small master locks and most other locks as well in the right hands. But if your going to spend the money and time to get good and want a set that doesnt need updated get the Southord MPXS-14 (which is sold on the site here for less than twenty bucks more) However, as compared to cheaper padlocks, master locks are a little harder and you should practice feeling the pins lock on the shear line on a cheaper model before you even attempt a master lock. The best way to start to learn is to make sure the wrench is not binding against the casing of the lock and is able to turn the tumbler, then apply a slight amount of pressure, use a rake pin by taking it all the way to the back of the lock and raking it back and downward on the pins, then slightly move the wrench back the opposite way you are applying pressure to open the lock, and turn the wrench back thereby opening the lock, if this doesnt do it, then do the above instructions, and after raking, pull the rake out, put a slight more pressure on the wrench and use either the diamond or single short hook to get the rogue pins that didnt pass the shear, again let a slight bit of pressure off of the wrench and turn forward popping the lock...its all about feel. Beginners need to be able to feel things like pins catch the shear line, and the tumbler barely move if you pop a pin if you want to become good. After a month or so the only pick you should need is a small diamond or a short hook to pick each pin individually and a good wrench and wrench setting point

Ummmm.... ok some of you people are very strange. I ordered these picks and havent tried them out yet but they are of pretty good quality (the metal is pretty thin) but the packaging is great. The book is more of a pamphlet and kind of small but very detailed and has pictures (yay pictures ! :) ) I recommend to all crazy children (and ninjas :P)

Very good! I found every reply informative and helpful. By the way, can somebody help me find any blogs or forums about lockpicking? If anyone knows a good blog about it please let me know. http://avidlocksmith.com

I'm thinking of buying a few things from this site and wanted to know about this set from people who actually purchased and used this set. I was completely taken back at the content here, what kind of a company allows this type of garbage on their site? This is suppose to be a place to review the product, not play little boy games. Finding this type of content is making me second guess doing business with them.

just got this set today, picked my front door lock and started on a master lock. only need the diamond pick and the hooked one. best advise is to start with one pin and work your way forward, but they don't all grab in a row so adjust the tension on the bar to allow some to snap back and you may need to pick one in the middle as the last one. ps took me 45 min to pick my front door (7 pins), but its only my first day so. not too bad i think. considering it seems you only need two picks i'm glad i bought the cheap one. pretty fun as a hobby.

I was wondering if there were any experinced lock smiths out there that would or could recomend any thing else i would NEED if I were going to try and learn to do this for a living(legally, acourse).

My main job is repossessing vehicles. where I live it is ok to enter a detached garage or outbuilding (yes, even if it is locked) but do need to know if this is a good purchase. If not, can anybody let me know where I can obtain a better and easier product? thanks

I bought this set and it works great. I opened my first lock (master pad lock) within the first 30mins after reading manual first. First time ever using picks. very easy to use. After that i opened another weather proof master lock very easily. Moved on to dead bolts and basic door locks in the house and opened them all. some door handle locks gave me some trouble due to feeler pick not long enough but it still worked. You can always purchase a longer one on this sight. I practice everyday for fun to get good and now im ready to move on to a bigger and better set for the slimmer locks next id like to move on to car doors. I heard they are the hardest. I also thought about doing this for a profession. I am by no means training to be thief. I just love the challenge and love working with my hands. In closing i highly recommend this product. Works great i hope this helps everyone out. Thanx

was a skeptic ordering this, now I wish I had sooner. Had a lock open in under a minute after reading the book. Very informative, works great.

I haven't bought this set, but this is for those who would like advice.

In my experience, the easiest lock to pick is a 40 mm padlock. just take a paperclip, and turn it into a straight peice of wire, the bend it on itself about halfway along it's length, soit it kind of like a skinny hook. Make a handle to turn with using the other half, insert al the way, and turn. Make sure the hook is about a 1/4 to 1/3 inch thick.

okay, so i'm only, like, 12, but i just thought it would be the coolest thing in the world to be able to pick locks. don't worry, i wouldn't be getting into peoples houses or anything; just doin this for fun! one time i tried to pick the lock on my little bank thing in my room, and i totally killed the paper clip.. -_-" but i think it'd be cool to learn how to do that, just incase i ever need to..! ^-^

This set is a great set to get started in lock picking. The hardest part about lock picking is the tension, once you get it down you will be in good shape. Also this does pick master lock padlocks, I have used it on them successfully multiple times. Remember lock picking isn\'t easy, especially on certain home deadbolts but with a lot of practice it can be done.

Author: Joe
The tools are of good quality, but the instruction manual could be better. The first section very briefly describes how a basic pin tumbler works. It then goes to instruct you on how to create your own practice lock from supplies you can find at the hardware store. The books seems to assume you have at least some prior knowledge of how locks work. It also gives very unclear directions of how or what you're looking to feel when you attempt to pick a lock open. My suggestion is buy the pick set, but find another book.

Does anyone know a site that has the laws of owning these in California? I'm interested in getting them, but I'm not 100% sure if its legal to have them.

I bought a business card from Kevin Mitnick the worlds most famous hacker. It was a metal business card with a lock pick set stamped out of it. Pretty flimzy but I was picking locks in no time. I think this set will suit me better. Longer picks and a little stronger looking. Only nice thing about my set is it fits into my wallet. MIT has a document out on lock picking, I found to be very informative. I am sure this set will pick just about any simple lock set, including master locks.
